In February 1999 I visited Christmas Island on a DXpedition with W8UVZ and WB9Z. George, W8UVZ, and I worked primarily them lower bands, I did a bit of RTTY and Jerry, WB9Z, made the bulk of the contacts on the higher frequencies. At that time we were battleing to make contacts on 160/80 so the thought always stuck in my mind to return for another attempt but at a different time of year. Therefore, I would like to remind folks that I will be on from Christmas Island from October 27 until November 8, 2003. The documentation has already been approved and LoTW is waiting on my log files. |

| I plan to concentrate on the lower bands and RTTY. Being by myself, I cannot be on 24 hours a day but I will mainly be on during the night when there are mutual periods of darkness to practically all parts of the world. I will favor sunset and sunrise on Christmas Island as operating times for the lower bands and RTTY during the afternoons. | |||
| The station will consist of antennas for all bands courtesy of Force 12. Pennant antennas will be used for receiving on the lower bands with preamps provided by Elbert County Preamps (Lance Johnson Engineering) and KD9SV. Three pennant antennas will be used, two of which will be a phased pair easily rotated between the US and Europe. | |||

Some equipment has been preshipped to David Burger, VK2CZ, who consolidated it with his gear and forwarded it on to Christmas Island. Other items were shipped direct such as TNC, backup rig and miscellaneous items. All equipment has arrived as I write this except the Force 12 antennas which are expected momentarily. |

The station will consist of a Icom 751A transceiver into a Kenwood TL-922 amplifier. Hartmut, DM5TI, currently operating as VK9CD, is lending me his solid state amplifier as a backup. A laptop will be used for logging which will also allow me to post daily, or as soon as I can, the logs as Bernd, DF3CB, has graciously agreed to maintain this web site. He will also be posting pictures that I send along. Thanks Bernd! |
