BV6 - QSL Management and Label Printing by DF3CB ------------------------------------------------ Release Notes and Changes 6.01 July 11, 1999 ============================================================================ - First complete release of the Windows Version which replaces all previous versions. 6.02 July 13, 1999 ============================================================================ - Problems with BDE configuration solved. - Only one instance of the program can be run now. - New Label Design for printing on QSLs (print_on_qsl.BVL). There was also a bug in the Label Design label24.BVL. - Contents file for the BV helpful (bv6.cnt) added. 6.03 July 19, 1999 ============================================================================ - The log window didn't display any QSOs, only after a search value entry. - Wildcard search now possible. See manual. 6.04 July 30, 1999 ============================================================================ Major changes and improvements! Configuration: - You now can customize the appearance of your log windows. Go to Configuration, Tab Sheet Log Display. You will like it!!! - Complete Configuration Dialog revised and further structured. Several unnecessary parameters settings removed. - Added: Configuration|Sorting: Automatically delete Print Queue after printing? Date Format completely customizable now. - New Configuration Tab Sheet 'Auto Open Logs'. Set a list of logs here that will automatically be opened at program start of BV. Log Search Window: - Menu item Windows|Label Designer didn't bring up the Label Designer Window. - F8/F9 now toggles the QSL sent/rcvd status between N, Y, B, D. - Callsign field of log owner now a little wider. - Log search behavior: as long as you enter a callsign the incremental search mechanism tries to find the first QSO record that matches with the search value. As soon as at least one **exact** match was found, all other logs will either list the same found call or nothing when not in the log. - You can start BV now with Windows command line parameters that contain a list of logs to be opened. Just specify the logname.BVC, no directory path. The file extension BVC is associated to BV in the Windows registry. - Also you can start BV by double-clicking on the file associations *.BVC and *.BVL in the Windows Explorer. Only one instance of the program can be run. - All sorting combinations work now. Completely revised. - Log editing now not in the log grid anymore but in separate edit fields at the bottom of the log window while in edit mode. - Statistics dialog improved. - Open Log Files Window now sizeable and it has a multi file select option. That means you can open several logs at once the same way you can select several files in the Windows Explorer. - BV Log Search Window is now automatically focused after program start, so you don't have to deactivate the BV Designer Window first. Tools Window: - Import of Swisslog logs forgot to convert 30m QSOs. - Tools Window: new checkbox "Remove contest exchanges from report". This options "cleans" reports from any contest numbers or other exchanges - except when it is recognized as 59+ or 599+ report. Useful for some import logs which deliver reports together with the contest exchange and which looks nasty on the QSL label. Answering SWL cards: - New feature everybody has been waiting for years. Now it is implemented as as prerelease feature. It's not yet in the help file, so here it is the description. First load the new Label Design 'label_sql.bvl' into your BV Label Designer. Then click on Options | Answer SWL cards in BV Main Window. A security message will remind you that you have a SWL Label Design loaded. An empty SWL Log Grid will popup. Enter the SWL callsign there. Now look for the QSO records the SWL wants to have confirmed. Do a log search as you are used to do. Now 'move' the requested QSO from the Log Window onto the SWL Log Grid with the mouse. It's called "drag and drop" in the Windows language. When you are finished, click on the Print Button in the SWL Log Grid. Click on Preview (Ctrl-R) and see how it looks like on the labels. If you have two or more logs open with different owner callsigns, drag and drop into the SWL Log Grid is possible only for one owner callsign of the logs. This is intended of course. Help File: - Help file updated and extended. New chapter FAQ and Tips and Tricks. Other stuff: - Warning and problem 'Print Queue in use' solved. Please report if that occurs again and describe the circumstances. 6.05 August 9, 1999 ============================================================================ Bugs fixes: - 6.04 could accidentally print empty labels. Solved. - Footer lines were not printed on follow-up labels for the same call. Log Windows: - Focus problem of the Log Grids in the Log Windows finally solved. The grids received focus only after clicking on other controls in the Log Window. Answering SWL cards: - Data entry, and drag & drop improved. Description added to help file. Adjust QSO lines now also works for SWL Label Designs. Important new feature: Label Sheet Saver! (Function Key F12) - It often happens that you have a few labels left on a label sheet and you don't want to waste them (label sheets are expensive). The Label Sheet Saver lets BV start printing at a label position which you enter after pressing the function key F12. Take a look at your used label sheet and count all used labels till the first unused label. Start counting in the first column and go down the column (BV prints first column 1, then column 2 and so on). The first unused label is the one you enter in dialog box. Label Designer: - Layout Dialog improved. Shows you a preview of the label sheet! - Field Choose Dialog improved - I am just redesigning the BV Label Designer. This will take a while but it will make your life easier then. Other stuff: - Program Navigator updated. - New menu item Help|View Changes File to read this file - ADIF import now supports reading frequencies (e.g. 14.025) and comments (e.g. CQWW CW 1999). Comment length can be up to 16 characters. Longer imported comments are cut after position 16. 6.06 September 3, 1999 ============================================================================ Log Import revised: - ADIF import and export revised. Now supports import and export of comments (ADIF tag ) for up to 16 characters and frequency (ADIF tag ) for up to 9 characters. - LogPlus import problems solved. Band info wasn't decoded for later versions of LogPlus. - S5 EA-88 Standard Log Import by S52D wasn't working. Revised. Label Printing Bug: - Putting QSOs into the Print Queue after the first printout led to trouble with putting any further QSOs into the Print Queue at some users. Occurred in BV 6.05. I couldn't reproduce this on my computers but revised that part as well. Please report if that problem still occurs. Configuration: - Tab Sheet Sorting: The texts of buttons "Do not sort Print Queue" and "Sort Print Queue alphabetically by calls" were mixed up. This parameter was saved but not correctly displayed when opening the Config dialog. Fixed. - Tab Sheet Sorting: "Show continue/discontinue Message after # labels": Revised. Now works OK. Set this to multiples of the number of labels you have per label sheet, e.g. to 24, 48, 72 if you have 24 label per sheet. The program displays a message box and asks to continue or discontinue with putting QSOs into the Print Queue. The Escape Key () also discontinues printing. - Tab Sheet Log Search: New option "Clear Search Fields after Print". If checked, BV will clear all search fields after putting QSOs into the Print Queue (F2, F3). Other notes: - Some users have problems with BV6 under Windows 98. I am going to change the program compiler but this will take about another month. If you report bugs, please specify which Windows version (95/98/NT) you are using and which BV Version (6.xx). 6.07 September 3, 1999 ============================================================================ IMPORTANT! Log grid cursor is positioned to the row AFTER an exact found call: This could occur with logs generated with BV 6.05 and after. You typed in a call that is definitely in the log (exact match) but the data cursor in the log grid was positioned after that call. As a result you couldn't print that specific call. The next call was printed instead. You can easily find out if you have a bug log when the prefix block 1..9 comes after the A..Z block. To solve this you have to convert your log again by doing the following steps: 1) Close all open logs and go to the Tools Window (Ctrl-T). 2) Choose 'BV for Windows dBase Files' from the 'Select Input Log Type' dropdown list. 3) Click on 'Add Log...' and choose the log you want to convert. 4) Click on 'Start Conversion'. Repeat steps 2 though 4 for all other recently generated logs. 5) Leave the Tools Window (Ctrl-X). Now, the 1..9 prefix block should appear before the A..Z block. Slashed Zeroes ('Ø') printed on the labels: Several users have reported that zeroes in callsign fields are not printed with a slash. To solve this you have to change the configuration for dBase in the BDE (Borland Database Engine) which is required for running BV. 1) Be sure, BV is not running. 2) Run the program BDECFG32.EXE. In most cases you will find it in the directory C:\IDAPI. 2) Click on the driver 'DBASE' in the left box. 3) Then click on 'LANGDRIVER' in the right box. 4) Choose 'ascii ANSI' from the dropdown list there. 5) Click on the 'File' menu and on 'Save'. 6) Exit the program. 7) Run BV6 and put a few calls with zeros into the Print Queue and watch the results with the Print Preview (Ctrl-R). Auto open logs: Up to 32 can now automatically be opened at BV program start. All logs in the right hand list box on tab folder "Auto Open Logs" in the Configuration Dialog will be opened. Click on the logs in the left box, then click on the arrow buttons to move them into the right box. The "Automatically Open Logs?" checkbox has been removed. Not necessary. Log Navigating: New function key F6 to jump easily from one open log to the next one, if you have several logs open. Use Shift-F6 to jump to the previous log window. Calling Help Functions: Help Menu in BV improved and new menu items added: 'Help Contents' jumps to the help contents. 'Help on BV' jumps to BV Overview chapter. 'Help on Log Search' jumps to the Log Search help chapter. 'Search Help' jumps to the help index. 'BV Homepage and Updates' opens your browser and opens the BV homepage. Log Import: - LogPlus: Mode PSK31 added. Printing Labels: - PSE/TNX flags added. If a QSL wasn't received yet (QSL received = N) you can print a short PSE text in each QSO line. Otherwise a TNX text is printed. The texts can be set in the tab folder "Print Formats" in the Configuration Dialog (up to 6 characters). The field name is 'PSEQ'. - Number of QSOs printed per label. Field name 'NUMQSOS'. This can be used e.g. for 'xxxxx confirms the following 5 QSO(s):'. Both new fields become effective after the next deletion of the Print Queue. Log Search: - The log wasn't displayed after an exact match search unless you pressed F11. Fixed. Also opening a new log after an exact match in all open logs should result in an exact match search in the newly opened log now. - Customized date and time wasn't displayed correctly when having marked a QSO. - Hitting the Escape key aborts printing of all logs now (F3). - The number of labels displayed in the status bar is being updated more frequently now while putting labels into the print queue. Tools - Reindexing and Packing: BV Log Files use dBase as database. The index of dBase files might need some maintenance after a longer time of use. If problems encounter with your BV Logs Files, rebuilding the indexes might help. Packing is useful when you had a lot of deletions in the logs. Both new functions can be performed on the new tab folder 'Reindexing' in the Tools Window. Click on the logs in the left hand box and use the arrow buttons to move them to the right box. The files in the right hand box will be reindexed and/or packed then after clicking on the Start Reindexing Button. Future developments: - I am just redesigning the BV QSL Label Designer to make it more user friendly. This will take at least another month. - I am also preparing the implementation of a QSL Manager Database provided by Martin, OK1RR (http://www.qsl.net/ok1rr). This database is a huge collection of managers and the result of a hard and long work. - Helpful extension. 6.08 October 17, 1999 ============================================================================ Just minor changes. I am working on the new BV Version 7! A lot of improvements. Please QRX. Log Import: - ADIF import of mode PSK31 now working. - Import of EA88 Logs and I2EOW Log removed. 6.09 January 04, 2000 ============================================================================ Again, only some minor changes. Log Import: - The "BV ASCII Import" now supports import of comments and frequency as described in the manual. - Conversion couldn't be started unless you had entered at least 4 callsign characters. So, 1x1 calls were not supported. Fixed. Tnx G0KXL. - Some more cosmetics: Progress bar now also works while reading ADIF. Progress is shown now every 1% for larger logs. 6.10 January 09, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Import: - ADIF Import: BV has a log field "COMMENT" (16 characters). You now can choose an ADIF identifier from your ADIF import file which shall be assigned to the field "COMMENT" in BV at import time. This can be any of the ADIF tags:
Default field is . You can set it on the second tab folder in the Tools Window. Click on the "Save Changes" button afterwards. One purpose for this is for example to import the QSL Manager, put it into the BV field "COMMENT" and later print it on the QSL label in the header section of the label - close to the "HISCALL" field. Use the "COMMENT" field of the first QSO line which is named "A_COMMENT" in the label designer, since every QSO record has a "COMMENT" field. Note: longer texts than 16 characters will be truncated because the BV field "COMMENT" is only 16 characters wide. - LogPlus Import: QSOs above 29MHz were interpreted as 6m. Fixed. Tnx OK1MP. - I4UFH Toplog Import: 6m QSOs were interpreted as 10m. Fixed. - WB2DND Log Import: now Y2K compliant. Log Footer Lines: - Long Footer Lines were wrapped and continued in the next line after some 30 characters. Fixed. Tnx DL4MCF. Automatically delete Print Queue after printing: - This should work now when called from the Log Window or Label Designer Window after printing. Still doesn't work when called from the Preview Window. Configuration: - A new message dialog 'It is recommended to delete the Label Print Queue now!' appears after you changed settings which concern the Print Queue. If you don't delete it then, unexpected results might occur. Log Windows: - 'Stop Print' button in Log Windows now works. 6.11 January 21, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Windows: - Log navigating and QSO marking without mouse! New keys defined for log navigating for users who prefer keyboard use. You don't have to leave the search fields anymore using these keys: Cursor down move to the next QSO record Cursor up move to the prior QSO record Page down move 10 QSOs forward Page up move 10 QSOs backward Ctrl-End move to the last QSO record Ctrl-Home move to the first QSO record . set/remove a QSO mark and move to the next QSO record : move to the prior QSO and set/remove a QSO mark All keys are performed on the active, open log. - New Button 'Remove marks' next to 'Wipe Search Fields' Button to remove all QSO marks ('double-clicked' QSOs) in the active log. - Color of marked QSOs can be set now. Go to Configuration, tab folder 'Log Display', click on the 'Marks' button, afterwards click on 'Save Changes'. Log Import: - New Import Log type 'OH2GI-Ham System' ASC log files. Tnx OH1NOA. Please note that the number of QSOs displayed might be wrong due to the file structure. - Bug fix: WF1B logs with dates in January or February were imported wrong with the actual day - 1. E.g. Jan 09 was converted as Jan 08. Tnx DK3GI. - Swisslog (DOS) import: Y2K bug fixed. Tnx DJ7AA. Images in Label Layouts: - Attention: WMF images cause that only one label per page is printed. Use BMP images instead. Number of QSO and footer lines in configuration and Label Layout: - There are two places where the number of QSO and footer lines play a role - in the Print Queue (set in the Configuration) and in the Label Layout. This can be confusing and can result in errors. To avoid this the number of QSO and footer lines in the Label Layout gets the priority. A non-empty print queue has to be deleted if you load a new Layout with a different number of QSO and footer lines. A warning is displayed in this case. Label Printing: - Major bug fixed. Space between the single labels of a column (value of "Space between Rows" in Label Layout) was ignored at printing time. Example: a label has a height of 36mm and 2mm spacing to the next label. The second label was printed at position 36mm instead of 38mm. Fixed. Tnx SV0LK. 6.12 February 5, 2000 ============================================================================ Major bundle of improvements! QSL Managers: - A new feature everybody was waiting for - the management of QSL Manager information and printing of the QSL Manager info onto the labels. Read the updated help file for the complete description of this new feature! Log Window: - New function keys Shift-F2 and Shift-F3: Puts QSOs of the active Log (F2) or all open Logs (F3) into the Print Queue and prints afterwards (Ctrl-P). Very handy if you often print single QSLs. - Bug fix: searching for one specific call which was not found in all open logs and putting the QSOs for it into the Print Queue (F3) caused an error message and the print was aborted. Fixed. Thanks VE6AQ. QSL Labels: - New Configuration item 'Fill empty QSO lines with dashes' in the tab folder 'Print Formats': As the name says, empty QSO lines will be filled with dashes if you print less QSOs on the label than QSOs would fit on the label and if you check this option. Tools Window: - ADIF Import: BV now accepts PSK as well as PSK31 but remember that this actually is a bug of the ADIF export file generator. - New mode 'HELL' added and supported for import types ADIF, Swisslog, BV ASCII input/output and LOGPlus!. - Under certain circumstances you could only enter 7 instead of 8 digits in the "date to" field of the date range fields. Tnx DL5ZB. BV Program start: - BV showed an access violation error after the initial installation and the first program start. Fixed. Messages in German language: - A few messages were in German language yet. I have changed the compiler and this should fix the problem. 6.13 February 9, 2000 ============================================================================ QSL Manager feature: - Bug fix: the actual manager was NOT displayed in the search toolbar. Sorry! - Number of QSL Manager data records now displayed in Tool Window. - Manager import as text file: the DX4WIN file format for QSL Managers is supported now as well (comma separated file): CALL,,MANAGER J49WI,,I2WIJ AL7MQ,,DF3CB 4U1UN,,WB8LFO 4U1UN,04/01/1997,W6TER Log Import: - BV ASCII Export Format didn't export comment and frequency. Fixed. - New Import Log Type 'Cabrillo Format' - New Import Log Type 'ARMAP 99 (CSV - Comma separated files)' Log Window: - Changing QSL sent/received flags via function keys F8/F9 now also possible when log in read-only mode. - New function key F7 to view only marked QSOs (toggle function) and Ctrl-F7 to remove all QSO marks. 6.14 February 15, 2000 ============================================================================ QSL Manager feature: - Bug fix of DX4WIN QSL Manager Import: month and date were mixed up. Sorry! - Import of ON6DP QSL Manager Database as text file (qsl.txt) added. - Import and Export progress is displayed through a progress bar. - Export now possible in DX4WIN QSL Manager file format. Choose the right file type in the save dialog. Log Window: - Editing QSOs improved! A new QSO Edit Toolbar will be shown when you switch the log into Edit mode. Move the new Edit toolbar to a place you like (it's a 'stay-on-top' window), resize it by holding the mouse on the lower right corner and moving the mouse. The window position will be stored for the next program start. Navigate through the log with the keys cursor up/down, page up/down. Click on the insert button to add new QSOs, on the delete button to remove QSOs. Hit Ctrl-Enter to post changes or click on the save button or use the cursor keys. Attention: empty fields, date and time are not yet checked for validity and can lead to errors! This will be fixed soon. Log Import: - Import Swisslog: Modes Amtor, PSK31, Hell, Clover, Pactor, Packet (PR) added. Band decoding improved and bands 1296 and 2350 MHz added. 6.15 March 4, 2000 ============================================================================ QSL Manager feature: - Import of OK1RR QSL Manager Database should work now finally! Thanks very much to Alec, SP2EWQ for giving me important hints to solve the problem. Log Window and hitting F2/F3 by mistake: - You may have found yourself in the situation that the callsign field is blank in the search toolbar (all QSOs are displayed) and you hit F2 or F3 by mistake. It will put all QSOs into the print queue and probably mark all QSOs with 'QSL sent'. By default, a warning 'Do you want to print all calls?' is issued now after pressing F2 or F3. This warning message can be disabled by unchecking the new 'Confirm before F2/F3' parameter in the first tab folder 'Log Search' in the Configuration. I am also planning an 'Undo' function for the next BV version. QSL sent/received marks: - New choice 'no changes' for QSL sent/received marks. Doesn't make any changes to these flags after F2/F3. Log Import: - ARMAP Import (CSV - Comma separated files): sent and received reports were not converted correctly. Fixed. - ADIF Import now recognizes 'PSK3' as 'PSK31'... 6.16 March 10, 2000 ============================================================================ QSL Manager feature: - Importing multiple QSL managers for the same DX station wasn't working. This is fixed now. Repeated imports update the QSL manager info. At the first program start of BV 6.16 the message 'QSL Manager Index has to be updated!' will appear. The QSL manager database will be reindexed afterwards. This will take a minute or so. It is recommended to import the OK1RR database or all your other QSL manager databases again! - If a station has a manager, the label is now placed into the print queue according to the manager's call, not the DX call. This makes sorting bureau cards a little easier. - Manager field added to the sample Label Design Layouts label24.bvl and print_on_qsl.bvl. Log Import: - ADIF import improved: Some ADIF export files contain the frequency only, not the band info. This was rejected so far. BV now reads the frequency, converts it into a band and lets it import. 6.17 March 23, 2000 ============================================================================ QSL Manager feature: - Error message "Cannot use array of field values with expression indices" fixed when adding QSL Managers via the Search Toolbar. Log Import: - German HAM-LOG Import added. - YPLog by VE6YP Import added. 6.18 April 4, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Window: - Major performance improvements when filtering QSO data in conjunction with a large QSL manager database. The program looked liked being "frozen" when filtering for specific bands or modes. - New digital mode 'MT63' added and supported for import types ADIF, BV ASCII input/output. Log Import: - Old BV DOS Version 3 Import wasn't working. Fixed. - OH1AA Log Import added (.ASC files). The most common logging software in Finland. - FINTEST Log Import added (.TXT files). Contest software, which handles Finnish domestic contests. - QW by DL4MFM Import added (.BIN files). (Still) popular German HF and VHF Contest software. QW is not Y2K compliant but BV Import corrects wrong dates. - K8CC's NA import now Y2K compliant (.PRN files). SWL Mode: - The field 'Number of QSOs' wasn't filled. Tnx I2WIJ. - Other notes to the SWL mode: Footer lines are not transferred from the logs to the SWL QSL label. Therefore possible footer line fields are not filled. Use fixed, static text instead for SWL label designs. 6.19 April 11, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Window: - Important improvement: the new function key F5 now toggles the log mode between display sorted by call and display sorted by date. When switching, BV takes the date and time of the current QSO and sets the search start to this date and time in date search mode. You then have the chronological log with one single keystroke! Switching back into call search mode takes the call and displays all QSOs for this call. - Scrolling back in date search mode is possible now when you are at the first displayed QSO record. BV subtracts 10 minutes by each cursor-up keystroke which widens the search range. This makes it much more handy to find claimed QSOs that deviate in log time. - New QSL flag "!" to never print particular QSOs. This additional flag can be set manually with F8/F9 and these QSOs will be ignored at printing time. Tnx SP2EWQ. Log Import: - Old BV DOS Version 3 Import didn't import reports. Fixed. Tnx DL2MDZ. - ADIF import now supports Satellite QSOs. For those familiar with ADIF some explanations: Satellite QSOs require the ADIF tag SAT. Satellite name can be supplied with the ADIF tag (for example AO-10) and the Satellite mode with the ADIF tag (for example: 2m/70cm). Both tags are combined and put into BV log column "COMMENT". The comment (Satellite info) can be printed on labels then. QSL Manager database: - The QSL Manager database has been moved from the Tools Window to a new, separate window - the Manager Window. This window is much faster accessible now by either * double-clicking in the manager edit field in the search toolbar or * via the menu (Windows|QSL Manager) or * with the short cut key Ctrl-M Close the window by either hitting Escape or clicking on the OK button. This window has little more comfort now. Additionally, a pack/reindex option for the manager database is available now. Packing and reindexing should be performed after a lot of inserts, updates and deletions. This helps to improve performance. SWL Mode: - Only bands in meters could be printed on SWL labels. Frequencies in MHz can be printed also now. Tnx I2WIJ. 6.20 April 11, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Window: - QSO Edit Mode problems reported by T93Y revised. - SWL Mode completely revised. - The focus is set to the callsign or date field in the search toolbar after changing from other Windows applications back to BV. - The print queue is now permanently open during the whole BV session. It is also emptied, not recreated anymore after printouts. This should bring a slight performance improvement. Clicking on the 'Delete Print Queue' button will recreate it instead. Log Import: - Very handy, time-saving new feature: BV now saves the last used log file path (directory) for every import log and log type. - BV prompts you now for output log file names which already exist. This helps to not overwrite existing logs by mistake. - ADIF import supports now the new QSL flag 'never send QSL/will never receive QSL' ('!'). Set the ADIF tag ! or I (I = ignore or invalid). Same for . Other hints for ADIF import: QSOs marked with R (R = requested) will be automatically marked (highlighted in red) and can be printed separately when you filter for marked QSOs. - Import of HAM-LOG fixed. I thought it was dBase but it is FoxPro. QSL Manager feature: - Latest OK1RR QSL manager databases weren't imported anymore. Thanks to SP2EWQ for finding the solution. Help file: - Updated. 6.21 June 17, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Window: - New feature 'Multiple Selection of QSO records'! The user can select multiple, non-contiguous rows now by keeping the Ctrl-Key pressed and clicking on any QSO rows. If you have chosen a multiple selection, only these selected QSOs will be printed. With a multiple selection active, F8 and F9 will change the QSL sent and QSL rcvd flags all together in a bulk mode. - Multiple call search match solved. You type in DF3CB and find DF3CB and DF3CB/ZA as result but you want to confirm only DF3CB. F2 would print both calls in this case. Add another blank (DF3CB) and the log search will display and print DF3CB only. - The shortcut key of the QSO Edit mode has been changed to F4. This replaces former menu items 'Log in Readonly Mode' (Ctrl-X) and 'Log in Edit Mode' (Ctrl-Y). - Performance improvements: Wipe fields (F11) after print queue or search operations is faster now. Also, the performance of putting QSOs into the print queue is improved. Filtering records in conjunction with a large QSL manager database could sometimes freeze the program. Solved. - New menu item 'Tile Log Windows Vertically'. It stretches more than one open logs along the height of the main window. Vice versa, 'Tile Log Windows Horizontally' stretches them across the width. - New option 'Message Beep' which lets the computer speaker beep when you had an exact log search match. Activate it in the first tab folder 'Log Search' of the Configuration window (Ctrl-G) by checking the box 'Message beep after exact match'. Log Import: - ADIF import now recognizes short frequency notations like 7 (=40m). - Import of older HAM-LOG versions now supported. 6.22 July 31, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Import: - File list panel added to drag and drop files to be imported. - General CSV (comma separated files - Excel) import added. - LOGic import added. - ADIF import: problems with QSL status import solved. Tnx W1TW. - ADIF export: Satellite QSOs weren't exported. - ARMAP Import (CSV - Comma separated files) supports modes A1A and J3E - Multiple file select in open file dialog enabled. - Warning if wrong file extension (e.g. *.adif instead of *.adi) after open file dialog. - Last Import Type is saved now. - Error logs are written now into the new sub folder 'error logs'. This subfolder is being created automatically. - SPLog import revised. Log Window: - Style of log windows changed to increase space for actual log. The new status bar of each log displays the callsign for the log, the QSO record number, the number of selected records and the total number of found records. - Printout for callsigns in a range didn't work. Only the first specified prefix block was printed. Tnx AD1C. - New main menu item 'Logs'. Functions 'Footer Lines' and 'Statistics' moved into this menu. - Function 'Statistics' modified. Result can be saved as text file now. Label Designer: - Field choose dialog improved. General: - BV starts with a splash (information) screen now. - All BV Label Layout Designs (*.bvl) are automatically moved into the new subfolder 'layouts' and now loaded from there. 6.23 August 15, 2000 ============================================================================ Help File: - Completely revised, improved and up-to-date! Includes a step-by-step introduction now. Log Import Window: - Macros: the new tab folder 'Macros' is used to define and perform often repeated single log imports/log conversions with just one mouse click. - Tab folder "Log Type Overview" and "Convert BV4 Logs" removed. The ADIF import options moved to a new ADIF Options dialog. - New checkbox "QSL Flag sent = No": check this option if only QSOs with a "QSL sent Flag = No" shall be imported and if your log program supports such a flag. - Imported QSL Managers are displayed now after log conversions and can be edited. - LOGic Import improved. Supports LOGic Version 4 and 5 logs. - R25Log import added (see http://www.r25.de). - Input Log Type Box is sorted now. - New, automatically created sub-folders 'import' and 'export' for import and export purposes to keep the main program directory clean of temporary files. Log Statistics: - New info line in the statistics output saying on how many QSO lines of the used label layout the calculation is based on. Tnx I2WIJ. Log Windows: - The status bar containing information like the log callsign can be dragged (moved) now to the top, left, right or bottom position of the log window. 6.24 August 24, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Window: - One of the major bugs (hopefully!) solved - the "No current record" error message. It occurred when filtering QSOs, for example for marked QSOs and then hitting F2 or F3. - If you click on the new, little drop-down arrow right to the QSL manager field, a popup window appears which shows all QSL managers for a DX call if a station had several. No further function behind that yet, just for information. - Calender in date order mode removed. There comes a new one in BV7. - Menu items and buttons "Printer Setup" removed because it never worked. Will function in BV7. Meanwhile, choose the printer via Windows "Start Button | Settings | Printers". - Open Dialog: File list can be sorted by file name, callsign, log size and date now when clicking on the list view header columns. - Status Bar: there are now certain functions triggered if you click on the panels in the status bar: Sort Panel: toggles Log Display (sorted by Call or Date) = F5 Mode Panel: toggle the Log Mode (Edit/Readonly) = F4 QSL sent Panel: changes the QSL sent flag status ('N' > 'Y' > 'B' > 'D' > '-') QSL rcvd Panel: changes the QSL rcvd flag status ('N' > 'Y' > 'B' > 'D' > '-') Label Panel: deletes the Print Queue. - Footer Lines dialog improved. Log Import Window: - If BV Log Files are overwritten, the footer lines are not overwritten anymore. - LOGic import: QSOs with LOGic QSL flags "R" (Requested) were interpreted as QSL sent or rcvd=Yes. Tnx AB4RL. Log Statistics: - Statistics of x-Band QSOs added (# of 9-Band QSO, # of 8-Band QSOs etc.). Configuration: - The number of QSO lines and footer lines per label is read-only now because it is redundant here and leads only to confusion. These numbers are based on the actual number of lines on the currently loaded label layout. Bug fixes: - Configuration: if you opened the Configuration dialog without an open log, the error message 'Field "BAND" not found!' appeared. Tnx I2WIJ. - SWL mode didn't work anymore in BV6.23. Tnx W0GJ. QSL Layout Designs: - Starting a series with the most important Avery Label sheets, Avery5260.bvl for Avery type 5260 added to the BV distribution. Layout Settings: - Number of QSO and footer lines removed because these values were never relevant and not stored. 6.25 August 28, 2000 ============================================================================ New feature: Sorted printout of QSL labels in accordance with the QSL bureau rules, including sorted printout of US callsigns by call districts. This is the first ham radio software which is able to do that! BV has a prefix recognition now and sorts QSL labels correctly for the most important QSL bureaus: Brazil Canada Chile China France Germany Italy (Sardinia, Sicily separately) Japan Kaliningradsk Kazakhstan Mexico Philippines Poland Spain Sweden Taiwan Thailand European Russia Asiatic Russia U.K. (England, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales) Ukraine USA (KH, KL, KP separately) Uzbekistan Venezuela Yugoslavia and others... Prefixes for countries with many different prefix allocations are sorted together in a common block for one country, for example the Scottish prefix blocks 2A, 2M, 2S, 2T, GM, GS, MM, MS. If a station has a QSL manager, the label is sorted according to the manager's call. QSL labels for U.S. stations are sorted by call districts. First AA0, AB0, K0, N0, W0..., then AA1, AB1, K, N1, W1 and so on. Portable calls like K1TO/4 are put into the corresponding W1 block as well as US calls operating from abroad. The expection for U.S. call district sorting are labels for stations in Alaska, Hawaii, all U.S. possessions (KHx, KPx) and foreign stations working from the U.S. (like W4/DF3CB). This feature will save you a lot of time! Note: the bureau sorting works only if you have checked the option "bureau QSL answering" in the tab folder "Sorting" of the configuration dialog. If you have "direct QSL answering" active, the labels are sorted "first in, first out". Log Window: - The display of the current and total QSO number caused an enormous perfomance loss since BV 6.21, even on very fast computers. Both had to be removed. Tnx W0GJ. Label Designer: - Opening a new QSL Label Layout did not update the name of the layout shown in the statistics. Tnx I2WIJ. 6.26 September 24, 2000 ============================================================================ - The Print Queue can be made visible with the F10 key now. It shows the DX Call, the number of QSOs on the label and the manager. Drag the splitter bar on the right of the table to change the width of Print Queue window. Single or all Print Queue records can be deleted by pressing the delete key. Click with the right mouse on the window to open a popup menu for further commands. - The old "Print aborted" problem is finally solved. Occured after F2 every time you pressed the Esc key. - All import log conversions recognize BPSK/QPSK as PSK31. - ADIF log conversion errors are now transferred to an ADIF error log which can be corrected and reimported. The error log can be found in the sub folder 'error logs' of the BV main program folder. Correct it with an editor and reimport it afterwards. - Generic customizable dBase log import added. - Kenwood HamWindows log import added. - R25Log import problems fixed. - K8CC NA import problems fixed. - Marking QSOs also selected a single QSO line and only this single QSO line was printed then. Fixed. - Continue printing dialog improved. Additional button 'Print'. 6.27 October 1, 2000 ============================================================================ - Bug fix: the last label was printed twice under certain circumstances in BV6.26. Sorry for that bug! Tnx I2WIJ. - All log imports: alphanumeric characters in the reports are being removed now and the reports will then be replaced with standard default reports 59 or 599 according to the mode of the QSO. Tnx W6RKC. - Kenwood HamWindows log import was added in 6.26 but not displayed in the log type list. Tnx YV5LIX. 6.28 November 5, 2000 ============================================================================ Log Import Window: - New option 'Replace reports with standard reports (59/599)'. This is necessary for some contest logs with non-standard exchanges like the Sweepstakes in TRLog. Tnx W6RKC. - The layout of the screen had to be slightly redesigned. All keyboard shortcuts work now. Double-click in the file list box does the same job now as drag and drop or pressing the Enter key to choose files. - Log conversions can be terminated now by clicking on the 'Cancel' button and while reading the input log(s). Form redesigned. Counters added. - Log sizes of ADIF and Cabrillo logs are displayed now. - Error log output improved. - HamWindows date conversion problems solved. - BV4 export removed. - HAM-LOG import: QSL flags fixed. - Repeated import of logs with QSL manager information led to errors. Fixed. - New field 'Comment' to fill the comment column of ALL imported QSOs with the comment text entered here. If a comment text is entered here, it will override the comments of all imported QSOs. General: - Many shortcut keys had to be hit twice. Solved. - Focus problems solved when changing from other applications to BV. - Mode MFSK added. - Customizable length of log field 'Comment'. It can be up to 250 characters wide now. To set the length and to convert existing logs, call the Tools Window and jump to the second tab folder 'Log Maintenance'. Check the option 'Length of field "Comment"' and enter the new size. Move the logs you want to convert from the left pane to the right one and click on 'Start Maintenance'. Attention: the converted logs will lead to errors in all BV versions prior than 6.28! - Drag and drop into the Print Queue enabled! QSOs can directly be dragged into the Print Queue now, if the Print Queue Window is open (F10). The label QSO lines are filled in the same order as they are dragged. BV first checks if a label for the station and manager exists. If yes, the new QSO is appended. If the label is already full, a new label is created. If you hold the mouse over the Print Queue Window, a hint shows more detailed QSO information of the selected record in the Print Queue. Alternatively the shortcut key 'Ctrl-Cursor left' can be used to add QSOs to the Print Queue. - Edit QSO window (F4) slightly redesigned, improved, consistency checks added and defaults for new QSO records. - Number of selected records wasn't displayed correctly. It showed always selected records-1. - Log Window commands and buttons reorganized: * Cascade Log Windows Shift-Ctrl-C * Tile Log Windows Horizontally Shift-Ctrl-H * Tile Log Windows Vertically Shift-Ctrl-V * Maximize all Log Windows Shift-Ctrl-M - New Configuration item 'Slashed Zero ASCII Character' in the tab folder 'Print Formats': users having problems to print slashed zeroes, can enter here a language-dependent ASCII code for the slashed zero. Common ASCII codes are proposed in the drop-down list (216, 232, 248). ASCII code 216 is the default. 6.29 January 16, 2001 ============================================================================ Printing labels from different logs: - New option 'Merge QSOs from different logs into one label'. Optionally, QSOs from different logs but with the same log callsign, can be merged into one label after a F3, if this new option is checked in the first tab folder of the Configuration Dialog (Ctrl-G). BV first checks if a label for the station and manager exists already in the print queue. If yes, the new QSOs are appended. If the label is already full, a new label is created. Attention: the sorting criteria are not fully taken into consideration which means for example that a 40m QSOs from log A is already in the print queue and a second 40m QSO from log B can be added, despite that e.g. the option 'New bands only' is set. This will be enhanced in BV version 7. Log Import: - New export into 'G4ZFE Log Search Format'. This export creates a directory named by the callsign to be exported and by default in the sub folder 'export'. It then writes all QSOs into 36 text files 0.txt to 9.txt and a.txt to z.txt (well, not very nice but that's required). Which fields are to be exported and their sort order can be set in the new Options menu: 'Options | Output Logs | G4ZFE Log Search Applet' of the Tools Window. - Important CSV import bug fix: Fields exported by MS Excel as CSV files use quotation marks (e.g. "DF3CB","80M","CW") which was not considered at import time. Fixed. Tnx SM7KJH. - Import of K1EA CT *.ALL contest log files added. - ARMAP import: bug fix in QSL sent/rcvd flags fixed. Tnx DK1CM. - YPLog import: Import of the YPLog 'QSL sent' and 'QSL rcvd' flags was ignored. Fixed. Tnx W4BQH. - Further K8CC NA import bug fix. Tnx DK9TN. - Cabrillo export added. - Generic dBase import: import of QSL manager fields added. Tnx DL5WM. 6.30 May 08, 2001 ============================================================================ General: - Access violation under Windows 2000 solved when the print preview was called. Tnx AD1C. - Newly opened log windows are maximized when the last BV session was closed with maximized log windows. - Not all entries were visible in the Print Queue window after F2/F3. This was probably the reason why multiple QSOs with the same station were not always put on the same label when using the drag and drop method. Tnx KD6WW. Log Import: - New import log type 'SPRINT by DL2NBU (*.ASC Files)'. Tnx DJ5BV. - Beside the time formats 'hhmm' and 'hh:mm', all other time formats in the format 'hhmm' can be imported now e.g. 'hh.mm'. Tnx IK2MRZ/IV3IYH. - Import of frequency fields that contain the word 'MHz' are supported now. Tnx DJ9MH. - CSV and generic dBase import: new option 'Band/MHz column contains' with the items 'can be both' (field can contain band and frequency information), 'only band' (field contains only band information) and 'only MHz' (field contains only frequency information). This is necessary for cases like '10' which can mean 10MHz or 10m. Tnx WL7E. 6.31 May 16, 2001 ============================================================================ Log Import: - The 'R' in Meteor Scatter reports and the 'A' in Aurora reports were filtered out by mistake. Fixed. Tnx DG3GAG. - Import of times again revised. Times like '9:59' can be imported now. Tnx IK2MRZ/IV3IYH.
