It is possible that the BDE is already installed on your system because some other applications use the BDE as well. If you are not sure, then install BV first, run it and watch for possible database error messages in conjunction with the BDE. If you get error messages, download and install the BDE as described here.
Click here to start the download of the BDE installation program bde_setup.exe and save the file save in a temporary folder on your hard disk (for example in C:\temp). The file size is 3.9 MB.
Before you use BV for the first time, you need to set up the BDE! This is necessary to set the right (dBase) database driver and to print call signs with slashed zeroes ('Ø') instead of a usual zero ('0') to better distinguish between the number 0 (zero) and the character O.

| - | Start the program bdeadmin in your BDE program folder, usually C:\Program Files\BDE. |
| - | Click on the Configuration tab sheet of the left panel, on the + sign at the Drivers node and then on the + sign at the Native node. |
| - | Click on the DBASE item: |
| - | Click on LANGDRIVER in the right panel and choose ascii ANSI from the drop down list. |
| - | Set the Level to 3. |
| - | Next, open the System node by clicking on the + sign and then click on INIT: |
| - | Set the DEFAULT DRIVER to DBASE. |
| - | Finally, click on the Object menu and on Exit. The changes will be saved after a message dialog. |
When the download is finished, double-click on the file setup in your temporary folder to start the installation of BV. Follow the instructions in the setup program.
For all future updates, download the BV6 update file bv6update.zip, save it in your already existing BV6 program folder (usually C:\Program Files\BV6) and extract all files from this ZIP file, using an unzipping program like WinZip. Overwrite all existing files in the folder.
